Meet Marissa – Nurturing a Space to Exhale, Reclaim Yourself & Heal Beyond Survival

I am a decolonial therapist who is passionate about creating spaces where Black women and femmes can exhale, reconnect with themselves, and begin healing from the traumatic experiences they’ve survived.

My areas of focus include trauma, workplace trauma, chronic stress and burnout, anxiety, self-worth, and major life transitions. I am particularly interested in supporting Black women who are used to being labeled as “the strong one”—holding everything together, caring for others, navigating difficult environments, and continuing to push forward even when their minds and bodies are asking for something different.

I bring a unique professional background to my clinical work, with experience spanning social work, trauma-informed healing and facilitation, entrepreneurship, and the corporate and nonprofit sectors. My understanding of workplace systems also informs my interest in supporting Black women healing from harmful, discriminatory, or chronically stressful work environments.

My approach is warm, collaborative, trauma-informed, liberatory, and grounded in curiosity rather than judgment. I incorporate mindfulness, body awareness, nervous system stabilization, psychoeducation, and strengths-based practices while honoring each client’s culture, identities, lived experiences, and individual definition of healing.

I truly believe therapy doesn’t have to be a place where you perform strength or arrive with everything figured out. It can simply be a place to show up exactly as you are and begin listening to the wisdom that already lives inside you.
